"friendliest marina"

Keppel Bay Marina is situated less than 10 nautical miles from the beautiful cruising grounds of Keppel Bay and the Keppel Islands. Boasting a tropical climate that rarely experiences 'winter-type' temperatures, Keppel Bay Marina is the hub for boating on the Capricorn Coast. The marina extended their docks late in 2008 and welcomes visitors to come and berth at one of their 115 new visitor berths.

The multi award winning Keppel Bay Marina is highly regarded amongst the boating fraternity, significantly because the staff and management provide a friendly personal welcome to every boat owner and their crew.

Completing the arrival formalities after docking at Keppel Bay Marina is a little like checking into a boutique hotel. As the tantalising aromas from The Waterline Restaurant waft across the deck, new arrivals are presented with a welcome pack containing all the essential information a visitor requires. The friendly staff are well informed on what's happening in the area and are keen to help boaties make the most of their visit. Want to know how to catch the bus or hire a taxi? What to see, and where to find the best local markets and shopping? It's all in the welcome pack. Plus there's essential phone numbers for marine tradesmen and services.

The marina centre houses a full boat brokerage service, plus there's a well stocked chandlery open 7 days per week. If there's a product you need that's not in stock, just ask the staff and they'll do their best to source it for you.

In fact, the team here are so obliging they invite marina guests to utilise the complimentary Courtesy Car. It's a remarkably generous service, with marina guests able to book the car in 2-hour modules to do provisioning or other shopping. The marina even subsidises the fuel, though contributions are welcome to help keep this unique service operating.

But if you really want to explore the delights of the Capricorn Coast, you'd be best to book a private tour with Little Johnny's Tours. Operating a little like a private chauffeur service, Johnny will take visitors to some of the best local attractions. Whether you explore the coastal strip or head inland to the lush hinterland community of Byfield, the Capricorn Coast has plenty of temptations to offer boat owners and their crews.

Koorana Crocodile Farm boasts over 3000 crocodiles from hatchlings through to a staggering 1000kg specimen, plus after the guided tour you'll have the opportunity to sample crocodile meat in the café.

However, the best dining opportunity is actually right in the marina, with The Waterline Restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Expect to be tantalised with stunning local produce like Banana Station beef and Keppel Bay bugs, prawns and scallops.  Dining is alfresco, with tables delightfully positioned amongst the stunning tropical gardens overlooking the marina. Don't miss Sunday afternoons on the lawn with live music beneath the pandanus palms.

Dining Out

The multi award winning Waterline Restaurant at Keppel Bay Marina is no ordinary restaurant. For a start, evening diners are greeted with a rarity in Queensland al fresco dining circles: crisp white linen tablecloths and napkins elegantly draped across the outdoor tables. But that's where the formality ends. Service is friendly and approachable, while the compact menu features quality local produce from the land and sea.
Open 7 days from 7am for breakfast, lunch and dinner (Bookings Preferred)

Reasons to Linger

Explore Keppel Bay Marina is conveniently positioned for southern based vessel owners who prefer to berth their boat in the delightful cruising grounds of the Capricorn Coast. With direct flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, sothern boat owners can be onboard their vessel at Keppel Bay Marina in as little as three hours, making it feasible to get away regularly for long weekends. The Keppel Group, the Bunker Group, Island Head Creek and Pearl Bay are  all within a short distance of Keppel Bay Marina and offer plenty of opportunities for anchoring in uncrowded bays and inlets. Escaping north during the winter is the best time for cruising this area, with consistent, moderate SE winds combined with a climate that invites swimming, snorkelling, fishing and beach-combing.
Enjoy
Ferns Hideaway at Byfied is a secluded rainforest resort set on 40 hectares, in the hinterland just 30 minutes drive northwest from Yeppoon. Overnight guests can book secluded cabins amidst the forest, while day guests are welcome to dine in the restaurant and enjoy the resort facilities. Paddle a canoe gently down the quiet stream, wander the forest on the myriad of walking trails, or just lay by the pool or enjoy the spa.
Koorana means 'to bring forth young', and visitors to the Koorana Crocodile Farm will have the opportunity to handle one of the many hatchlings on this unusual farm. But it's actually the elder crocs who demand the most attention here, with the enormous salty 'Buka' weighing in at close to 1000kg (not that anybody is game to actually put him on the scales). Owner John Lever is the original crocodile hunter right down to his funky blue croc skin RM Williams boots. Bookings preferred 07 4934 4749 for the hour long guided tour.
Join the Locals The weekly Farmers Markets, a great source of local and organic produce, are held each Saturday from 6am to 9am at Yeppoon Showground. Catch the 5.45am bus from Keppel Bay Marina.
