Port Bouvard Marina is located on the Dawesville Cut, a man made channel linking the vast Peel Inlet with the Indian Ocean. Port Bouvard is a suburb of the City of Mandurah, about 45 minutes drive south of Fremantle. Mandurah itself is a dynamic, thriving waterfront city that shook off its sleepy 'holiday town' tag long ago. It’s been a favourite holiday destination for West Australians for generations. The town centre has a lively but laid back foreshore with shady parklands surrounding vibrant entertainment and shopping precincts.Though much of the Peel Inlet estuary is accessible only to shallow draft vessels, the main advantage for Port Bouvard Marina users is direct access to the Indian Ocean. Bluewater sailors will relish the offshore-like sailing conditions found outside the west facing channel. Untroubled by land all the way to Africa, in good weather the Indian Ocean provides invigorating sailing conditions and superb fishing grounds. The only real navigable hazard is Port Bouvard Bridge, which has 17m clearance at highest astronomical tide (check with current nautical publications for latest info). The floating marina itself is a welcoming environment, encouraging marine recreation rather than restoration: major maintenance work is prohibited. Refreshingly, management actually encourages boat owners to live onboard their vessels, welcoming the lively ambience a well utilised marina exudes. It’s not unusual for marina users to organise impromptu get togethers dockside, such is the friendly nature of the marina. The dockside cafe/restaurant Cafe Coast regularly plays host to ‘tribute’ bands and other entertainment. As well as the cafe, there’s also a boat broker and general store selling basic chandlery items, fishing tackle and snack food, plus boat hire and charter operators within the small marina village. Both diesel and ULP are available seven days a week from the fuel jetty, as is a sewage pump out facility. Marina users have access to modern private bathroom facilities, while docks and car park have secure access. Trailer boat owners are well catered for with a state of the boat ramp facility. Four lanes, orderly floating pontoons, ample car parking and boat wash down areas are all available to annual membership holders or casual users (fees apply). | |||
