Kangaroo Island

Best known for its wildlife and stunning scenery, Kangaroo Island also has much to offer the food and wine lover

Declared an official wine region in 2001, Kangaroo Island is gaining a reputation for its boutique wines. Approximately 180 hectares of the island are under vine, producing 470 tonnes of grapes per year. There are 12 wine producers and two cellar doors on Kangaroo Island.

The purity of the island environment is also reflected in its produce. Kangaro Island's free-range, organic chicken is served at the finest restaurants Australia-wide. Sweet tooth fiends will be delighted to discover that the honey harvested here is produce by the world's last pure strain of Ligurian bees.

Seafood is another specialty. The waters surrounding the island are rich with oysters, prawns, crayfish, whiting, while fresh water marron are a local specialty.
